STEP 1: Measuring the Width Determine Rod and Placement

If the curtain rod is already installed

Use a measuring tape to measure the full length of the rod.

If the curtain pole is not yet installed

First determine the ideal placement above and beside the window frame.

Recommended Curtain Rod Height:
We recommend installing the curtain rod 6–10 inches above the window frame to create a taller, more elegant look while allowing the curtains to open and close smoothly. Mark the position lightly with a pencil.

Recommended Curtain Rod Width:
For optimal coverage and a fuller appearance, the curtain rod should extend 6–15 inches beyond each side of the window frame. This helps block light more effectively and allows the curtains to stack neatly when opened. Mark the positions lightly with a pencil.

STEP 2: Determine Drapery Finished Width and Length

📏 Measurement Tip:

  • Width:  For a fuller and more elegant appearance, consider adding fullness based on your chosen header style. Additional fullness enhances the drape, creates richer folds, and ensures optimal window coverage. The recommended fullness ratio varies by curtain style and heading type, so please refer to the recommendations and examples below. Keep in mind that fullness is also a matter of personal preference—lower fullness creates a cleaner, more tailored look, while higher fullness results in a fuller, more luxurious appearance. Choose the option that best complements your space and design style.
  • Length: Ensure the measuring tape hangs straight down for the most accurate measurement. For improved light blocking and maximum coverage, especially for blackout curtains, we recommend adding 2–3 inches to your desired finished length. A slight floor-touching or softly puddled look is often preferred for a more luxurious appearance.

Pleated & Goblet & 4-IN-1 Styles

Final Width:

For styles such as Double French Pinch Pleat, Triple French Pinch Pleat, Inverted Box Pleat, and Goblet, fabric fullness is already built into the design. We use approximately 200%–230% fabric fullness to create elegant pleats and achieve a full, elegant drape.

Recommended Fullness:
For example, if your curtain rod measures 100 inches wide:

Double French Pinch Pleat, Triple French Pinch Pleat, Inverted Box Pleat, and Goblet — 1.1x Fullness Ratio:
You may choose:

- 1 panel that is 110 inches wide
OR
- 2 panels, each 55 inches wide

4-IN-1 Style — 1.5x Fullness Ratio:
You may choose:

-1 panel that is 150 inches wide
OR
- 2 panels, each 75 inches wide

This helps ensure proper fullness, balanced folds, and ideal window coverage once the curtains are installed.

Please note:
When the curtains are fully stacked back, the stacked width is typically about 15%-25% of the curtain panel width. This should be considered when planning wall space and curtain stacking.

Final Length:

Measure from the bottom of the curtain rod to the floor, then subtract 1 inch to determine the final curtain length. This adjustment ensures the curtains hang properly and achieve the intended finished look.

Grommet & Back Tab & Rod Pocket Styles

Final Width:

For a fuller and more elegant look, we recommend choosing 1.5x–2x fullness based on your measured window or curtain rod width.

• 1.5x fullness creates a more tailored and clean appearance with softer folds.
• 2x fullness, which we recommend for most spaces, creates richer folds and a fuller drape.

Recommended Fullness:
For example, if your curtain rod measures 100 inches wide:

Blackout and Room Darkening Curtains — 1.5x Fullness:
You may choose:
- 1 panel that is 150 inches wide
OR
- 2 panels, each 75 inches wide

Sheer Curtains — 2x Fullness:
You may choose:
- 1 panel that is 200 inches wide
OR
- 2 panels, each 100 inches wide

This helps ensure proper fullness, balanced folds, and ideal window coverage once the curtains are installed.

Please note:
When the curtains are fully stacked back, the stacked width is typically about 15%–25% of the total curtain width when fully opened. This should be considered when planning wall space and curtain stacking.

Final Length:

Measure from the bottom of the curtain rod to the floor.

Please note:
• Back Tab and Single Rod Pocket: add 1 inch to the measured height
• Grommet and Double Rod Pocket: add 2 inches to the measured height

These adjustments account for the curtain header structure and help ensure the curtains achieve the intended finished floor length after installation.

Different Aesthetic Effects of Curtain Lengths

STEP 3: Select Your Finish Length

When choosing between different curtain lengths, there are two popular styles that can be selected in our measurements guide:

Hover: Curtains “hover” just above the floor for a clean, modern look. (Default adjustment: -1” from floor measurement)

Puddle: Curtains extend slightly onto the floor for a more elegant, dramatic effect. (Default adjustment: +3” from floor measurement)

Attention
  • Please allow a slight variation of ±1–2 inches due to industry-standard tolerances, fabric characteristics, and necessary adjustments during production and installation.
  • Use a steel tape measure and measure both width and length as accurately as possible, and measure as close as 1 inch to ensure precision.
  • Measure each window or doorway individually for the best fit.
